BEGINNER’S GUIDE
Sweet or dry? What those words really mean.
They’re helpful—but they’re not the whole story.
01 — MORE THAN SWEETNESS
Sweet or dry is only part of the story.
Sweetness matters, but it’s only one part of how sake tastes. Acidity, aroma and richness can change the whole impression — so two bottles described as “dry” can still taste very different.
02 — TRUST YOUR TASTE
Forget the numbers.
You don’t need to memorise sake meters or technical scales. If something sounds fresh, rich, floral or smooth, that’s a perfectly good place to begin.
03 — WHAT DO YOU ENJOY?
Start with drinks you already love.
If you enjoy crisp white wines, bright beers, or fruity cocktails, those preferences are often a more useful starting point than the words ‘sweet’ or ‘dry.’
04 — THERE’S NO WRONG CHOICE
Your favourite bottle might surprise you.
The goal isn’t choosing the ‘correct’ sake. It’s discovering the bottle that gives you something you enjoy.
Trust your taste. Start with curiosity.
